With up to 90 pounds of pressure in a champagne bottle, a cork can fly off at 50 mph. Below are a few tips on a safe cork removal;
- Make sure your champagne is chilled below 45 degrees as a warm bottle is more likely to pop unexpectedly.
- Don’t shake the bottle as the build-up of pressure can send the cork with little or no assistance.
- Point the bottle away from everyone holding it at 45 degree angle and place a towel over the top of the bottle. Grasp the cork firmly and gently twist and pull the cork off.
